Phantasma*Studio and Agra Satria Introduce "City Pilgrims": A Fashion Tribute to Local Culture
Fashion and culture converge in "City Pilgrims," the latest collection from Phantasma*Studio, a contemporary menswear brand founded by Eric Liem. Teaming up with Agra Satria, the creative director and founder of MATA Studio, this collaboration is more than just a showcase of stylish apparel; it is an invitation to rediscover and celebrate Indonesia’s rich artistic heritage. Inspired by scout uniforms, outdoor gear, and mountaineering aesthetics, "City Pilgrims" brings a fresh perspective to urban exploration.
The collection encourages wearers to embrace cultural experiences, from visiting museums and galleries to wandering through the city’s architectural landmarks and indulging in local culinary delights. Initially conceived to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17, 2024, the collection has evolved into a broader narrative about the importance of cultural appreciation in everyday life. At the heart of this collection lies the Truntum batik motif, reinterpreted through custom fabric patterns designed by Agra Satria. The motif, rooted in Javanese tradition, symbolizes love and renewal—a fitting theme for a collection that seeks to reignite the younger generation’s admiration for Indonesian culture. The seven-piece lineup includes two shirts, a pair of shorts, a pair of trousers, two scarves, and a functional bag, each crafted with meticulous attention to detail over a year-long design process.

The official launch of "City Pilgrims" took place at Dialogue Artspace Kemang, a venue known for its dynamic cultural programming and distinctive architectural design. The three-day event, running from March 21 to 23, 2025, is an immersive experience. The pop-up installation, created in collaboration with modular steel furniture brand Made by Format, pays homage to traditional corner shops (toko kelontong), a familiar sight in Jakarta’s urban landscape. Meanwhile, Dialogue Café has partnered with premium sandwich brand Lunch for My Husband to offer a curated selection of limited-edition dishes inspired by the collection’s theme.
Beyond fashion and food, the event also features interactive activities designed to deepen the audience’s engagement with Indonesian art and culture. A Carabiner Accessories Workshop on March 22 invites attendees to experiment with functional design, while a Casual Talk Session on March 23 brings together industry experts, including Phantasma’s Eric Liem, MATA Studio’s Agra Satria, menswear specialist Max Suriaganda, art and culture expert Aditya Setiadi, Made by Format’s Diaz Hensuk, and Lunch for My Husband founders Amrolansyah and Yorri.

As the festive season of Eid al-Fitr approaches, "City Pilgrims" offers a versatile wardrobe that seamlessly blends tradition with contemporary style. The collection reminds us that cultural heritage can be a source of daily inspiration. Phantasma*Studio and Agra Satria hope to spark a renewed appreciation for Indonesia’s artistic legacy through this collaboration.
