Party Animal: When The Goods Dept. Meets the Wild Imagination of Cisarua Creative
The Goods Dept. has teamed up with Cisarua Creative for a new collection titled Party Animal. Released on August 16, the collection features a series of bold and witty designs characteristic of Cisarua Creative, a collective born out of untamed ideas.
Cisarua Creative describes their practice as one that transforms local nuances and everyday humor into daring, maximalist visuals deeply rooted in daily life. The name itself is inspired by a distorted tiger statue that once went viral on social media—a metaphor for how the collective embraces absurdity as fuel for creativity. Tigers and other animals are recurring characters in their work, representing a mix of power, agility, and delightful chaos.
The Party Animal collaboration with The Goods Dept. grew organically out of casual conversations earlier this year. “Mas Hendrick, Store Manager of The Goods Dept., suddenly asked us to create something together. Coincidentally, he’s from Bogor, so the word ‘Cisarua’ must have felt familiar to him, and somehow sounded ‘sexy’ for a collaboration,” Cisarua Creative recalled. The Goods Dept. invited the collective to stage an in-store activation while responding to their staple products like t-shirts and tote bags. This initiative aligns with The Goods Dept.’s vision of providing space for artists, designers, and creative communities to create and showcase their work. “So without overthinking, we took this collaboration as a playground, an opportunity to experiment together,” they added.
Party Animal itself is a celebration of the primal urge to party like wild beasts craving euphoria. With the taglines “Wildly Good Sound” and “Wildly Good Time”, the collaboration invites audiences into a world that is playful, irreverent, and full of energy. For Cisarua Creative, the party concept introduced a fresh spark they had not explored before. The Party Animal atmosphere immerses visitors in an unusual setting, where animals, unpredictable and untamed, respond to the idea of a party in their own way. “For instance, the phrase ‘NO HUMAN ALLOWED’ imagines a scenario where humans are turned away for not being fun enough,” they laughed. “Well, not exactly boring, just not animal enough! Another phrase, ‘Join the Wild Side!,’ is the animals’ invitation to humans to join in the madness and ferocity of the party.”
The collaboration resulted in a range of merchandise: three t-shirt designs, one tote bag, and a sticker set. Beyond merchandise, it also includes nine new art prints by Cisarua Creative: three channel the Party Animal spirit, five showcase the visual voices of the collective’s artists, and one new work titled Love, created by a close collaborator of the group.
Understanding the creative process behind such a collaboration is equally fascinating—two (or more) heads must find common ground. Especially for Cisarua Creative, whose members each bring distinct artistic styles. The process began with collective brainstorming to establish a unified artistic direction; once agreed upon, execution followed. “As a collective, we’ve always allowed freedom for each member to express their artistic style in response to a creative brief. If something feels off, we’re open to giving feedback and discussing it. Often, experimentation is part of the process, trying out new ideas. But those experiments still have to stay within context,” they explained. This approach allows every artist to channel their wild ideas while maintaining a cohesive artistic thread. The outcome is a set of visuals that are diverse yet share the same spirit.
Since its release, the collaboration has been met with an enthusiastic response. Many visitors praised the project for bringing fresh energy both to Cisarua Creative and to The Goods Dept. “Maybe it’s also because so many of our friends were involved in the launch event. Friends from Darwin Sablon, Candie.tv, DJ Nest, and live type cuts by Sir Umo, one of the legends behind the glass decals of city buses, mikrolets, and bajajs, were all part of it. That really gave us the motivation to keep exploring further,” Cisarua Creative concluded.
