The Design of “Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika” in Djali’s Hands

In 2025, Perunggu released their second album, titled Dalam Dinamika. Carrying the themes of transition and personal growth, the album was then introduced to fans through Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika, an immersive solo concert. Its success in Jakarta in November 2025 encouraged Perunggu to bring Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika to three other cities: Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung. However, this concert series would certainly feel “bland” if it weren’t accompanied by a visual design that harmonizes with and complements the performance. Ahmad Rizzali, better known as Djali, is the creative force behind the artistic vision of Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika.

“(I) handle almost everything, from the band’s identity and merchandising to the stage visuals,” Djali explained during his visit to our office. With his extensive experience designing and illustrating creative projects for the music scene, Djali was entrusted by Perunggu to translate Dalam Dinamika’s music into various artistic elements supporting the band’s concert series. Viewed from the outside, Djali’s work seems incredibly complex because the “face” of Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika is in his hands. However, for Djali, working with Perunggu makes this seemingly daunting creative process a joy. “They came in with a concept created by Maul (Perunggu’s vocalist and guitarist). Then they gave me the freedom to develop that concept,” said Djali.

Much like the projects Djali has worked on before, his creative process began by studying the music on the album Dalam Dinamika and what Perunggu aimed to share through their songs on this album. “They’re talking about a transitional period, both in their professional lives and as individuals,” Djali explained. But the challenge was how to translate that concept into the visual elements of a performance that could be described as truly “360-degree” – especially since the concert series spans three different cities.

In the end, Djali drew inspiration from the transitions between prehistoric eras: the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age for the three different cities: Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung. The Perunggu logo, which was previously developed and designed by Djali, was also modified to reflect each era. “For the research, I studied the textures of each era to apply them to the Perunggu logo for each different city,” explained Djali. It wasn’t just about textures; Djali also experimented with different colors for each city. His inspiration for selecting colors came from the natural aging process of bronze itself. Over time, the color of bronze fades due to natural oxidation, the formation of a patina, and the deterioration of the surface layer. This process naturally alters the metal’s appearance, resulting in a dull brown layer, a bluish-green hue resembling a duck eggshell, and a faded orange layer.

Djali chose these three colors for the three visual identities of Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika, which were then applied to various visual needs, including merchandise. There was another particular challenge in designing merchandise for Perunggu: the expectations of Perunggu fans, who would eventually become the buyers of that merchandise. “Fans’ opinions differed, especially on social media. Some like it, but others are critical,” Djali explained. Despite these concerns and doubts, Djali successfully designed merchandise that Perunggu fans loved, and it sold out in just a matter of minutes.

Djali’s work doesn’t stop at visual identity and merchandise. He also designed the visuals for the Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika stage, which were far from simple. Since stage visuals were something different from anything he’d worked on before, Djali chose to play with vibrant colors and dynamic typography. Unlike the merchandise, which features more muted colors, for the stage, Djali selected bolder hues such as red, purple, and electric blue.

Djali’s work for Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika was complex because he built a visual system capable of bridging the album’s narrative, the concert experience, and the souvenirs, which became memories that every fan who attended took home with them. Every element Djali designed came from the same core concept, which then evolved into a cohesive visual experience for each city on the Pertunjukan Dalam Dinamika tour.
