Sentimental Connections in Prints and Everyday Objects

The risograph art print exhibition The Riso (and Objects) You Wanna Keep in Your Room, a collaboration between C ON TEMPORARY and Further Reading, has officially opened at C ON TEMPORARY, Gormeteria Level 2, Bandung. Running until December 15, 2024, this exhibition digs into the personal relationships between artists, their private objects, and the prints they produce. It also invites visitors to reflect on everyday items' role in personal and professional spaces.

In this second iteration of Riso Room, objects that typically inhabit the artists’ workspaces or private areas are displayed alongside accompanying narratives. This approach offers a fresh perspective on how ordinary items can enrich the dynamics of an exhibition space and provide insight into an artist's working methods, thought processes, or decision-making. Anton Ismael, Ardneks, Marishka Soekarna, Papermoon Puppet Theater, and TUTU are participating in the exhibition. Each artist brings fragments of their personal lives through the objects they select and their graphic prints showcased in the exhibition space. Each piece provides a window into the artists' creative processes, from everyday items to artifacts with deep sentimental value.

The exhibition raises profound questions: Are these objects genuine extensions of the artists’ personal and professional worlds? What makes an item worthy of a place in their workspace? And on a broader scale, when artworks like these risograph prints enter our personal spaces, do they too become part of our routines, fostering a comforting sense of familiarity?

The exhibition also celebrates the unique qualities of risograph printing, often referred to as digital screen printing or stencil printing. This method is known not only for its distinctive colors and textures but also for its environmentally friendly process. With minimal energy consumption and chemical-free inks derived from organic rice bran oil, risograph printing embraces imperfections as integral to the character and uniqueness of each print. The Riso (and Objects) You Wanna Keep in Your Room presents a risograph not just as a print medium but as an artistic one. Minor differences between the original image and the print are seen as part of its charm, creating an authentic visual experience.

The Riso (and Objects) You Wanna Keep in Your Room is open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at C ON TEMPORARY, Gormeteria Level 2, Bandung. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the unique works of these artists and uncover the stories hidden behind the objects they have chosen to share.
