Ardhira Putra Announces First Solo Exhibition in Japan: Mixtape Paradise

Jakarta-based motion designer and illustrator Ardhira Putra and Pocko Japan present Mixtape Paradise, the artist’s first solo exhibition in Japan to open later this month. Those familiar with his work will recognize the signature vibrancy and 80s and 90s pop culture nostalgia in his work. This time, Ardhira is bringing his trademark blend of citypop and masterful motion design to Tokyo, Japan.

While “citypop” is heavily associated with Japanese 80s and 90s pop culture in particular, its popularity has grown beyond the East Asian nation. This influence is clear to see in Ardhira’s work. Growing up immersed in Jakarta, he was immersed in Japanese pop culture through television, music, early internet, comics, toys, and video games. Through Mixtape Paradise, Ardhira's approach of distilling these elements in bold colors and pixelated visuals highlights the quiet moments; listening to music, collecting cherished items, and daydreaming. A celebration of life’s simple pleasures.

“With my art, I hope to inspire exploration and connection, encouraging visitors to reflect on their own nostalgic memories and find joy in simplicity,” Ardhira shared in a press statement. In the hustle and bustle of modern day life, Mixtape Paradise gives visitors a space to slow down and allow them to reconnect with their inner child through retro aesthetics and nostalgic nods to early internet culture.

Mixtape Paradise will open from January 25th to February 15th at Pocko Gallery Tokyo, Japan.
