The collaborative GRAFIS’24 exhibition will revolve around the sub-theme of “The Role of Graphic Design as the Locomotive of the Creative Industry”. With this theme, GRAFIS’24 showcases how graphic design is a force which propels the creative economy ever-forward—emphasizing the critical role that graphic design plays in the Indonesian creative ecosystem with the hopes of fostering future collaboration across the industry. GRAFIS’24 will be curated by some familiar names in the industry including; Hermawan Tanzil, Ismiaji Cahyono, Diaz Hensuk, Eric Widjaja, Rege Indrastudianto, Seto Adi Witonoyo, and Ritchie Ned Hansel.

GRAFIS’24 also marks a massive milestone in the development of graphic design across the nation as it will be held 44 years after the first ever GRAFIS exhibition, GRAFIS’80, held on September 24, 1980. This first exhibition was followed by the subsequent GRAFIS exhibitions held in 1983, 1988, and 1989 back when ADGI was still known by the name IPGI (Ikatan Perancang Grafis Indonesia). The GRAFIS’88 and GRAFIS’89 exhibition were held in collaboration with Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA), showcasing the works of Indonesian and Japanese design practitioners side by side. The last GRAFIS exhibition to be held prior to the upcoming GRAFIS’24 was held in 1992 at the Jakarta Art & Design Expo (JADEX’92).
