Breaking Boundaries with UNDESIGNED!
Last January, Art & Science, ASHTA, was filled with keen visitors at the launch of UNDESIGNED!, a publication initiated by Diana Nazir, co-written with Stephanie Mamonto, designed by Studio Woork and features photographs by Kavin Noe’man. The publication explores the extraordinary creative processes that challenge conventional design ideas. The book was celebrated with a book signing and special showcase organized by Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design or ICAD.
UNDESIGNED! presents thoughts and quotes of notable professionals and investigates the approach of ”undesigning”, breaking boundaries and finding alternative solutions, in the context of various fields. The publication belabors the idea of taking on each project as a challenge to create grounded innovative solutions for general betterment of people’s lives.

This publication was initiated by Diana Nazir, an interior design industry veteran with over 30 years of experience, who has long been motivated by a love for art which she has infused into her design thinking throughout her three-decade career. This publication is no different. In her statement, Diana reflects on the problem-solving nature of design. She shares her belief in the importance of working across disciplines, emphasizing that the most exciting innovations happen at the intersection of various fields. The book reflects this statement, focusing on the ideas borne from multidisciplinary efforts.
The sources of these discussions presented in the publication, also reflecting this multidisciplinary spirit, are not limited to professional designers. Instead, it also invites ideas and thoughts from artists, academics, journalists, associations, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders. Contributors to UNDESIGNED! include Adi Panuntun, Danton Sihombing, Dewi Lestari, Dolorosa Sinaga, Garin Nugroho, Giulio Cappellini, Hilmar Farid, Io Woo, Raul Renanda, Ria Lirungan, Rinaldy A. Yunardi and Sandiaga Uno, along with comments from Triawan Munaf, Rosan P. Roeslani, and Irawan Karseno. The book is available for purchase at any Art & Science shop as well as their official website.
